Design Concept - Unity and Diversity

Central High Needs:  A design that reflects their unity and diversity.
Because:  Central High has a diverse student population.  Central’s student population is the most diverse in Springfield.  Demographically, Central High's student population resembles a true picture of America.  The buildings that Central High uses were built over a period from 1893 to 2002.  Architectural design has changed a lot in that time period.  Georgian brick is mixed with 1950's monumental architecture.  Traditional shingled roofs are adjacent to modern parapet roofs and even metal roofs.  Arched top windows alternate between standard double hung rectangular windows.  Both types of windows are adjacent to modern curtain walls.  The inspiration for Central's newest wing was "The new reflecting the old".  The visioning team from Central like this idea.  A design inspired by "Unity and diversity" could embrace the latest addition along with Central's important historic past.
In order to:   A building designed to reflect Central’s diverse population could unify their collective identity and strengthen their community pride.  Creating a design inspired by unity and diversity would preserve the historical buildings on Central’s campus as well as accentuate the new buildings.
